Named NAIOP’s Best New Office Tower 2018
The Mark is Seattle’s first tower built on a quarter-block site, sharing the remainder with the historic Sanctuary Seattle and Rainier Club. The tower candelabras over both and subtly tapers back through a sequence of planes with exposed diagonal steel braces that visually divide the building, conveying a sense of movement and emphasizing the vertical aesthetics of the 48-story tower.
A striking addition to the downtown skyline, the faceted scheme draws the eye upward creating a soft expression which avoids overpowering the historic scale of the adjacent buildings. Depending on the time of day, it also reflects the detail of both buildings at the tower’s base – paying homage to Seattle’s past and present.
The Mark is also Seattle's first tower with column-free floors and floor-to-ceiling windows—more per square foot than in any other building in Seattle—to create light-soaked spaces for tenants. Designed to support a healthy professional life, it includes elite on-site amenities such as a lounge with sweeping views of Elliott Bay, a courtesy conference center, a fitness facility with locker rooms and showers, secure bike storage, and tenant concierge.
On the street level, first class urban design is also underscored. A travertine wall with tiles hand selected in Italy create a podium of natural beauty that flatters the century old Byzantine architecture of The Sanctuary Seattle. At the corner of 5th Avenue and Columbia Street, a sculpture by internationally renowned artist Julie Speidel sits in the public domain for all to enjoy. And if you turn the corner, you will be greeted with an extensive living wall of flora and fauna. The only half block, outdoor living wall in the region. The pedestrian experience is further enhanced through the addition of street trees, open spaces, tactile surfaces and overhead weather protection. Together, these elements create a unified urban block embodying three centuries of Seattle history.
In 2019, the Mark will debut a 189-room luxury hotel and spa fashioned by the world-class designer Phillippe Starck, bringing intelligent sophistication and nightlife to the downtown business district. For more information about The Sanctuary Seattle go here
